At Lakeland we are specialists in creative kitchenware and innovative home products and reach our customers through mail order, the web and our national network of 34 retail stores. Our product is supplied from our 150,000 sq. ft. in-house Distribution Centre in Kendal where one of the key challenges is to maintain the very high service standards as the business continues to grow. Part of that challenge required Lakeland to review its working practices and after a careful selection process I appointed the Broad Oak Partnership to provide industrial engineering consultancy support. The brief was simply to work with the Lakeland team to identify the key areas for operational improvement and to develop a performance management system.
I was delighted with the outcome – after just a few weeks of work the brief was delivered in full and the way the consultants integrated with the whole of the Lakeland team and kept everyone informed was exceptional. The management team now have and are motivated to deliver a number of clearly defined initiatives that will drive operational improvement for Lakeland. They also have a performance management system that will allow them to continue to identify future potential.
I am always happy to support a company that delivers real value to my operations and I fully expect the relationship we have with Broad Oak to develop into a long term partnership."
Gary Marshall, Director of Operations at Lakeland Limited
"Studies carried out by the Broad Oak Partnership from January to March 2004 identified significant savings in one of our picking operations.
Time Study results of the improved Method (Layout, Equipment & Process) proved that the picking rate (cases per hour) should have been more than DOUBLE the rate actually being achieved!!
The specific method & performance improvements identified by Broad Oak were equivalent to a 23% reduction in direct labour costs of our overall warehouse operation!!
The work carried out by Broad Oak was already having a positive effect on the bottom line even before the project finished in April 2004. Namely, our Finance Director had noticed a measurable increase in profitability from the 'closed book' contract"
Alan Hughes, General Manager, TDG Willand (August 2003 to October 2004)
"RCS engaged the services of Broad Oak Partnership to assist in compilation of full detailed SOP's, which are now the cornerstone of our Operating Process's, I would highly recommend Broad Oak to businesses operating within the Logistics Industry"
